AgriLAND
Web-based information system for mediation of lease
Description
AgriLAND was a database designed to facilitate lease mediation and foster greater communication among participants of land market, connect the owners of unutilized land with active local farmers and facilitate the transfer of land rights in Armenia. The system contained three main business processes or workflows: incorporating parcel(s), requesting parcel(s), and placing an open request for parcel(s)/area(s). AgriLAND was developed as part of the FAO technical assistance project “Establishment of land management instruments and institutional framework to address land abandonment” (TCP/ARM/3705), which supported the development and operationalization of new regulatory framework and introduction of a set of land management instruments to address the abandonment of agricultural land and improvement of farm structures in Armenia.
Technology
AgriLAND was a web-based information system designed for lease mediation. The platform featured a Google Satellite Hybrid Base Map to facilitate parcel searches. Users could input search criteria in the form of a village name or cadastral code in the designated search field. Landowners from Armenia were encouraged to register in the system and incorporate their agricultural land parcels as available for lease.
Target
The main users of the solution were landowners and governments.
Business model
The database was developed as part of the FAO technical assistance project “Establishment of land management instruments and institutional framework to address land abandonment”. The FAO contribution to the entire project was USD 319 000.
Impact
Landowners is no longer operational. The initiative encouraged landowners from Armenia to register and incorporate their agricultural land parcels as available for leas. The AgriLAND team then would try to find a long-term tenant for the land.
