Description

AgroLife is a digital farm-management platform used by smallholder and commercial farmers in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina to record on-farm activities (crop, field, working operation, inputs, machinery, costs) and to access localised meteorological data, weather forecasts and pest- and disease-risk models. It serves farmers leasing publicly owned agricultural land, who are legally required to report their activities, as well as municipalities that administer the land and need a unified digital alternative to paper logbooks.

AgroLIFE software application is available in the web and mobile versions and has several modules including 1) Meteorological data, 2) Weather forecast, 3) Diseases and pests, 4) Work planning. The app requires users to create a user account and enter information about the land, and enables monitoring of the performed activities by entering the data. A key component of AgroLife is a network of field-level agro-meteorological stations that continuously generate localized environmental data (such as air temperature & humidity, soil temperature, dew point, precipitation, leaf humidity, wind speed & direction, solar radiation, atmospheric pressure, Delta T, frost risk), forming the backbone for real-time monitoring and decision-support services. The database of resources under Workplanning module contains over 12 000 crop rotation combinations. Diseases & pests module covers 28 crops and 68 diseases/pests with predictive risk models. Viber community groups are used as an informal peer support and advisory channel alongside the platform

AgroLife mainly serves smallholder farmers leasing publicly owned land in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina who must legally report their activities, alongside larger commercial producers who purchase the platform on a commercial basis. The platform has a three-tier institutional architecture: farmers → local governments → Ministry of Agriculture, with role-based access at each level and the possibility for municipalities to submit yearly reports digitally to the Ministry. Municipal administrators use it to oversee farmer reports, plan subsidies and audit land use. The platform is also being deployed with ten agricultural cooperatives under a GIZ project. Total registred users are over 11 600 in Serbia from 12 mucicipalities, and over 990 in Bosnia and Herzegovina from 25 municipalities (as of June 2026). Telegroup states that end users own their data and that the platform is GDPR-compliant.

AgroLife uses a hybrid business model. Municipalities purchase the software licence and provide it free of charge to farmers within their jurisdiction, removing financial pressure on smallholders. Larger commercial farmers (typically 10+ ha) buy AgroLife and field meteorological stations directly on a fee-for-service basis as production tools. For small farmers without funds, equipment is procured through donor-funded projects (notably with GIZ and previously with regional partners such as REDAH); under these projects, meteorological data must be made openly available to all farmers in the region. Telegroup also provides on-site installation, configuration and training services, which farmers consistently cited as essential.

Impact

AgroLife replaces paper activity logbooks — historically reviewed by overburdened municipal agronomists holding hundreds of books — with structured, real-time digital records, improving compliance, transparency and the integrity of public-land lease management. Farmers gain free access to localised weather forecasts and pest- and disease-risk models that allow more proactive, lower-volume use of pesticides; municipalities gain real-time visibility on production and the ability to reward digital adopters with extra points in subsidy schemes.
