Agromonitor

Development platform for the creation of agricultural programming tools

Description

AgroMonitor is an online platform that offers software tools necessary for analyzing climate, pedological, spatial and organizational data, as well as tools for self-gathering, storing and presenting data through interactive maps, tables and charts that are easy to interpret and further analyse. The online platform enables advisors and farmers to have easy access to information about agro-ecological and weather conditions, access disease and pest forecasts, and precisely plan fertilization programs for over 100 crops. AgroMonitor provides detailed information on a diverse range of crops, encompassing stone fruits, brassicas, legumes, and various plant families such as Asteraceae, Solanaceae, Pome, Onions, Grapevine and Apiaceae. It informs farmers about the optimal use of plant production products, including fungicides, and predicts the occurrence of diseases such as Apple Scab, Potato Blight, Grapevine Downy Mildew, Downy Mildew, Late Blight of Celery, and Cucurbit Downy Mildew. Additionally, AgroMonitor advises on the use of plant protection products like insecticides, predicting occurrences of pests such as Codling Moth, Plum Sawfly, Cabbage maggot, Carrot rust fly, and European tarnished plant bug. The plant fertilization program involves selecting the crop, inputting field details, and planning the fertilization strategy based on expected yield and field characteristics. AgroMonitor offers software tools necessary for analyzing climate, pedological, spatial and organizational data, as well as tools for self-gathering, storing and presenting data through interactive maps, tables and charts that are easy to interpret and further analyze.

AgroMonitor application is based on VIPS, an open-source digital platform for prognosis, monitoring and decision support for integrated pest management in agricultural crops. VIPS provides easy access to information needed by advisors and growers to assess the need for plant protection measures at early stages. To create the forecast, the platform collects weather data and other model inputs and feeds them into pest and disease models. Data collected from weather stations and posted online, public weather data networks and weather forecasts are used, allowing pest and disease models to be tested and validated under local conditions, with multiple sources of input data. Observations of pests and diseases are reported and visualized in online maps. On AgroMonitor, a registered user can input their home location on the map or provide coordinates, enabling access to forecasts that include crop evapotranspiration and temperature.

Target

  • Smallholder farmers
  • Medium size farms
  • Farm advisors

The main users of AgroMonitor platform are farmers and farm advisors.

Business model

  • Subscription

AgroMonitor operates on a free trail and subscription-based business model, offering users the choice between Basic and Advanced Packages. Upon registration, users can avail of a seven-day free trial to explore the platform's features. The annual subscription fee for the Basic Package is 30.00 BAM (equivalent to approx. USD 16), inclusive of 17 percent VAT, while the Advanced Package is priced at 50.00 BAM (equivalent to USD NNN) with the same VAT inclusion. The Advanced package offers additional features such as parcel-specific information on water needs and a precise plant fertilization program.

Impact

The application aims to optimize irrigation and weather-informed decisions and support proactive disease and pest management. Personalized fertilization programs can help farmers enhance crop health and maximize yields for over 100 crops. The application aims to empower farmers with data-driven insights and enhance economic success in agriculture.
