Prototype online marketplace for fresh regional products in Germany
Description
BestellBar is a prototype online marketplace that aims to support regional producers and consumers through an e-commerce channel. BestellBar was created under the Digitale Dörfer (or "Digital Villages") project launched in Germany with the aim of examining the challenges of rural areas in Rhineland-Palatinate region in relation to digitalization. Technology
BestellBar is an online marketplace designed to facilitate the purchase and delivery of regional agri-food products via an online portal. BestellBar is to be integrated with e-payments systems, and LieferBar – a further digital component for the management of the home deliveries of purchased products by volunteers or professional couriers.
Target
The main users of BestellBar may be farmers, food artisans, civil society organizations, members of the public, logistic operators and retailers.
Business model
BestellBar has been prototyped as part of the Digitale Dörfer project with funding support provided by the Ministry of the Interior and Sport of Rhineland-Palatinate and the Rhineland-Palatinate Development Agency.
Impact
If developed, consumers will be able to support local retailers and producers by shopping online via BestellBar, and maintaining jobs in their communities. Furthermore, the ordering and payment systems operated by the online marketplace will offer consumers the convenience of ordering packages and paying by invoice or directly online.
