Suite of mobile applications for agricultural monitoring and education

DescriptionOverview of the initiative and its approach.

CAMP Alatoo mobile applications are re citizen-science and natural resource monitoring mobile apps. The apps are created by CAMP Alatoo Public Foundation, a Kyrgyz NGO focused on sustainable mountain development and environmental education. The applications enable users to collect, record and share geo-referenced data related to water quality, pasture conditions, biodiversity and climate-related observations.

The “Aquatic Organisms” app enables users to collect geo-referenced data and photos of freshwater macroinvertebrates to assess water pollution levels; the “Plant Phenology” app tracks seasonal plant development stages (e.g., flowering, fruiting) to monitor climate-related changes; the “Pasture Monitoring” app allows pasture committees and forestry staff to record vegetation cover and grazing impacts, with data shared in real time with experts and policymakers; and the “Tabiyat Kenchi” app engages citizens in documenting animal and plant species, including Red Book species, contributing observations to biodiversity experts for verification and building a national ecological database.
