Chemometric Brain

Software for digitalized quality control, fraud detection and food production monitoring

Description

Chemometric Brain is a cloud-based software that makes use of near-infrared (NIR) technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) for digitized quality control, fraud detection and production monitoring in the food sector. Chemometric Brain controls all the raw materials as they enter the factory and all batches of the final product that are manufactured.

Technology

  • Cloud
  • Artificial intelligence (AI)
  • Desktop/web-based application

Chemometric Brain is a software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform that uses NIR spectroscopy for quality control in the food sector. The NIR hardware devices capture the spectra-unique “fingerprints” of ingredients and products and compare these spectra with established reference models in the cloud (of which over 200 000 have been recorded). The software then uses AI-based mathematical processing and data analyses to determine the physicochemical properties of raw materials and finished products, to classify the quality and origin of the samples, and, ultimately, to detect non-conformities and fraud. The interface is available as a web-based application.

Target

  • Private sector

The main users are food processing operations.

Business model

  • Subscription

Customers can buy either a monthly or annual license. Validation licenses (minimum 6 months – EUR 125) are geared towards companies that want quality control, and come with software deployment, sample validation, user manual, training and support (3 h), and NIRS data centralization. Modelling Licences (minimum 6 months – EUR 409), on the other hand, target advanced users who want to create and maintain their own models, and come with software deployment, a sample validation, user manual, training and support (9 h), NIRS data centralization, free access to two existing models, qualitative model building and quantitative model building. Hardware is priced separately. A demo was being offered via the website as of November 2024.

Impact

Chemometric Brain aims to enhance quality control processes in the food industry by improving the traceability and homogeneity of ingredients and products. Chemometric Brain facilitates real-time, accurate analysis, enabling companies to detect food fraud, ensure compliance and maintain high standards of food safety and quality. The success stories featured on the website report increased efficiency in quality control, a reduced need for specialized chemometric expertise and faster implementation of quality control processes.
