Italy’s olive oil portal
Mandatory register of olive oil producers, processors and traders in Italy
DescriptionOverview of the initiative and its approach.
Italy’s Olive Oil portal is a web-based application that records movements of olive oil from the mill to the final consumer, including stocking data. The portal was established in line with Ministerial Decree No 8077 of 10 November 2009.
TechnologyTechnology used by the initiative.
The web-based application allows olive oil producers, processors, transporters and traders to trace the movement and stocks of olive oil with full transparency. Export data can be downloaded from the portal in Excel format, along with details of annual olive oil production and stocks at regional, provincial and individual producer levels. The portal is fully integrated with the farm register (Fascicolo Aziendale) within the SIAN (Sistema Informatico Agricolo Nazionale).
TargetUsers, groups, or communities targeted by the initiative.
The olive oil portal can be accessed only by competent authorities and qualified users, namely farmers, delegated farm advisors, delegated farmers’ associations, olives mills and trade operators, whose registrations must be confirmed by SIAN with a digital ID (e.g. SPID/CIE/CNS) or PIN code.
Business modelHow the initiative delivers and sustains its value.
The portal is funded from the state budget and access is free of charge to qualified users.
