It provided portable, rapid, and multi-element detection capabilities without requiring chemical pre-treatment for agricultural or environmental samples. Results of soil tests were recorded immediately using GPS feature.

The Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) was a technique to determine the elemental composition of various samples by means of emission spectroscopy. It was composed of a laser which is focused on the target of interest to create plasma and a detection system which collected the characteristic lines emitted from the plasma.
