Description
The Biodrone Portal is an end-to-end platform that transforms aerial data from drones, satellites, and aerial surveys, into insight-driven decisions. The solution can be used for counting and categorizing objects, calculating values, detecting damages and identifying risks. The main applications are forest inventory including detecting dead trees, calculating biomass, identifying fire risks, tracking tree species, detecting diseases and assessing carbon capture, supporting harvesting and conservation decisions, and invasive species detection for identifying and monitoring invasive plants or animals.
Technology
The Biodrone Portal is a cloud-based platform that stitches overlapping aerial images into orthomosaics. The system applies pre-trained or custom AI models for automated object detection, classification and area segmentation. The user-friendly interface supports data upload, model training and analysis. Results can be exported in GIS-ready formats such as GeoTIFF, KML and GeoJSON for integration with external tools.
Target
The Biodrone Portal is designed for forestry agencies, environmental monitoring organizations, research institutes, and private sector companies.
Business model
The Biodrone Portal operates on a subscription-based model, with monthly plans (as of September 2025): Starter pack for USD 59, which includes 15 GB storage and 2 projects, Pro pack for USD 129, which offers 50 GB and 10 projects, and Business pack for USD 299, which provides 500 GB and 20 projects plus Digital Sample Plots. All tiers include unlimited detections and AI model training, with Enterprise plans available for customized access.
Impact
In 2021-2022 The Biodrone Portal enabled mapping of 15 000 hectares of storm-damaged forest in Norway, supporting recovery of 2.8 million m³ of timber and preventing further losses from pests and fire. The solution can reduce costs compared to helicopter surveys and improve worker safety. The platform has users in fifteen countries.
