Description

Arizor.uz is an information exchange system based on a mobile application, accessible from any connected device (phone, tablet, PC), through which beekeepers can access educational and informational data on beekeeping practices. The available information includes data on the location of bee colonies in Uzbekistan and bee poisoning hazard warnings. Pesticide applications for the treatment of crops are recorded on the app, which then sends out notifications to beekeepers. The application presents data on the colony locations of each beekeeper on a map, thus preventing bee farm overlaps. The system provides early warnings of pesticide applications to prevent honeybee losses, allowing beekeepers to act promptly to ensure the safety of their colonies. The app also provides data on the presence of melliferous flora, both wild and agricultural.

Technology

  • Mobile app
  • GPS
  • GIS

The information exchange system operates based on spatial data. The app, which is compatible with Android devices , does not support open registration, as logins require the beekeeper to input their Association of Beekeepers of Uzbekistan credentials.

Target

  • Smallholder farmers

The primary users of the app are members of the Association of Beekeepers of Uzbekistan, who are provided with access to information and statistical data. Over 100 users have downloaded the app to date.

Business model

  • Fully free

Developed in collaboration with FAO under the “Support to sustainable apiculture development” project, the app is open and free to use by all interested beekeepers.

Impact

The app aids beekeepers in decision-making and action-taking, facilitating their timely market response, as beekeeper and bee product records play a vital role in the steady growth of the sector. The app's optimal apiary location feature in Uzbekistan promotes the efficient use of natural resources, while the early pesticide warning notifications help beekeepers prevent honeybee losses and optimize production. Timely field processing warnings minimize bee deaths from chemical poisoning during agricultural plantation treatments.  As of January 2023, the app has recorded over 100 downloads.
