Description
Cagette is an aggregator platform that connects local farmers and consumers around community-supported food distribution hubs. It serves both small producers seeking stable market access and citizens seeking locally produced, sustainable food by enabling shared ordering, group collection points and direct sales. Cagette offers an online shop front for the farmers with online payment functionality under aggregator’s brand.
Technology
Cagette is a web-based ordering and coordination platform that allows registered communities (“cagettes”) to organise group purchases of food directly from farmers and producers. It integrates a backend database for products, producers and orders with user-facing web interfaces for members to browse offers, place orders and manage pickups. The platform includes features for community administrators to manage member lists, payments and distribution logistics. Hosted on standard web infrastructure, Cagette’s system supports multiple community modules and has been implemented via open-source code in some local initiatives.
Target
The main users of the platform are food consumers and farmers. As of January 2026, Cagette provides a distribution channel for 3200 certified producers.
Business model
Cagette generates income by offering professional training courses, workshops and support programmes to help farmers and community organisers use the software effectively, manage online sales and improve communication with consumers. The use of the platform and software is free.
Impact
