Roadmap for the country’s digitalization
Description
The Digital Spain 2026 agenda outlines the country’s digitalization roadmap, defining a strategy that takes advantage of the benefits of new technologies in support of stronger and sustainable economic growth, higher quality employment and greater productivity, thus contributing to social and territorial cohesion and prosperity. The strategy focuses on the three main pillars of infrastructure and technology; the economy; and people.
Technology
The digital technologies and initiatives promoted by the strategy in the agrifood sector include, among others, 1) the creation of a Digital Innovation Hub; 2) the establishment of an agri-food sector digitalization observatory; 3) the creation of a support platform through which agri-food sector advisors can promote flows of knowledge and interactions among actors in the Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation Systems (AKIS); 4) and the development of the Agricultural Holdings Information System (SIEX) to simplify the interactions of farmers and ranchers with administrative bodies, thus improving the management of agricultural and livestock policies and digitalization programmes within the fishing and aquaculture sector.
Target
The target users of this policy document are academia and research institutions, as well as the private and public sectors, all of which can benefit from the promoted initiatives and technologies. The document also steers a wide range of stakeholders towards a common vision and set of actions.
Impact
The national policy agenda strives to enhance the resilience and competitiveness of the agri-food and fishery sectors through the introduction of digital technologies into their production processes and by encouraging innovation and research. The policy further outlines the actions required to boost broadband internet connectivity in rural areas, given that many of the activities related to the green transition highlight the need for digital technologies in efforts to reduce emissions and to support the circular economy.
