Drones4GREEN
Erasmus+ project advancing drone skills for sustainable agriculture
Description
Drones4GREEN is an EU-funded project led by the Technical University of Sofia that connects higher education institutions and business stakeholders to advance drone-related skills and applications. The project prioritizes strengthening the digital and green capabilities of higher education, supporting digital transformation by building digital readiness, resilience, and capacity.
Technology
The project advances the use of drone technologies through mobile applications for flight support and a cloud-based digital hub for storing, sharing, and analyzing drone data. The project integrates GIS, GPS, sensors, and remote sensing tools to train users in drone operations, data acquisition, and visualization.
Target
Drones4GREEN develops curricula, training, and a digital hub to equip students, researchers, and SMEs with practical and theoretical skills for applying drones in agriculture, industry, and environmental management. Through a consortium that brings together higher education and industry partners across the EU.
Business model
Drones4GREEN project, ID: 2022-1-BG01-KA220-HED-000090004, is fully donor-funded by the European Union within the Erasmus+ program, with a total budget of EUR 400 000. Consortium partners co-develop and disseminate open-access outputs such as curricula, educational materials and the Drone Open Digital Hub through joint development work packages and events.
Impact
Drones4GREEN aims to promote new business opportunities in drone technology by establishing an open learning environment that helps learners gain practical competencies and skills related to drone applications, while also strengthening digital and green capacities in higher education and supporting collaboration between academia and SMEs. Two application frameworks were developed for surveillance and decision support, while multiplier events in Sweden and Bulgaria helped disseminate results and promote drone education across Europe.
