Description
InSoil is an EU-regulated crowdfunding platform connecting investors with small and medium-sized farms providing agricultural, green, and carbon farming loans to cover working capital, equipment, and regenerative practices. Farmers gain financing for productivity and climate-smart transitions, while investors earn returns and benefit from verified carbon credits
Technology
InSoil operates as a web and mobile platform hosted on a cloud infrastructure. The system matches investors with farm loan requests, processes electronic payments, and manages contracts digitally. It integrates loan scoring algorithms, remote verification processes, and automated investment tools. Carbon farming projects are monitored using satellite imagery, soil sampling, and a measurement, reporting, and verification system.
Target
InSoil serves farmers across multiple EU countries, with a strong focus on smallholder and medium-sized farms adopting regenerative practices. According to the company’s website, as of 2025, over 4 500 farmers managing 800 000 hectares of land have benefited, receiving more than EUR 80 million in financing, and 15 000 investors have been involved so far. The platform also targets retail and institutional investors seeking impact on investments in sustainable agriculture.
Business model
InSoil generates revenue by charging service fees on loans facilitated through its platform, as well as subscription fees for automated investing features.
Impact
Through its financing model and carbon farming projects, the initiative aims to sequester over 35 million tonnes of CO₂ by 2026. In addition to potential environmental benefits, it is expected to support rural livelihoods, enhance the resilience of farming systems to climate change, and facilitate greater engagement of investors in sustainable agriculture.
