Meteobot
Weather- and soil-monitoring station system for precision agriculture
Description
Meteobot is an automatic weather-station solution designed to deliver real-time and historical data on weather and soil conditions directly from the field, enabling farmers and agronomists to monitor rainfall, temperature, humidity, wind, soil moisture and other environmental parameters. The platform supports agronomic decision-making — including irrigation scheduling, crop protection timing, fertilization, and harvest planning — thereby contributing to optimized crop production, resource use efficiency, and risk reduction from weather and climatic variability.
Technology
Meteobot stations consist of a set of sensors including rain gauge, soil moisture and temperature sensors, air temperature/humidity/pressure sensor, wind sensor, optional leaf wetness or solar radiation sensors, that are integrated into a durable, solar-powered, battery-backed unit. The data are transmitted via mobile or internet to a cloud backend. Users access data through a mobile app or web interface, receiving real-time weather and soil readings, aggregated agronomic indicators, 10-day local weather forecasts, and historical data per field. The system also supports situational alerts and decision-support for crop management. Meteobot also integrates disease‑prediction models and certain software functionalities that require purchasing the compatible hardware station, which is typically necessary to access the full range of services.
Target
Meteobot is targeted at crop farmers, farm managers, agronomists, private-sector agricultural enterprises, and public-sector or advisory services needing accurate, localised agro-meteorological and soil data to guide crop management decisions. The solution supports both individual farms and advisors or institutions covering multiple plots or regions.
Business model
Meteobot operates via a mixed business model wherein users purchase one-time a weather-station unit, then subscribe annual or periodic for software services as compulsory components when hardware are purchased, cloud data access, forecasts, historical data to receive full functionality. Alternatively, those without their own station may subscribe to access data from a nearby station.
Impact
Meteobot aims to offer precise, data-driven farm management solutions through timely weather and soil information, which can help optimize irrigation, pesticide and fertilizer use, crop protection timing, and reduce yield losses due to adverse weather — thereby improving productivity and resource efficiency.
