Description
Under the "Preparing the grounds for digital transformation of agriculture" project provided through FAO’s Technical Cooperation Programme (TCP/UZB/3808), FAO supported the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistanin developing National programme of action for the digitalization of agriculture and rural areas. The national digital agriculture programme of action outlines four strategic pillars to align with Uzbekistan's agricultural priorities: (1) developing an enabling environment by improving ICT infrastructure, rural connectivity, and regulatory frameworks; (2) transforming government operations through eGovernment systems and enhanced agricultural data management; (3) promoting knowledge, skills, and innovation via digitalized advisory services, education, and research; and (4) fostering market growth by expanding access to tailored digital services and driving rural innovation.

The National Programme of Action for the Digitalization of Agriculture in Uzbekistan leverages various technologies to modernize and transform the agrifood sector. These include: geospatial technologies, IoT, e-government solutions and more.

Overall, the programme is intended to serve as a guide for policymakers, development partners, private sector actors, and other stakeholders interested in promoting the digitalization of agriculture in Uzbekistan.
Impact
As of Jan 2025, this strategy has not yet been formally accepted or endorsed by the government. The draft remains under review of the Government. The purpose of the national digital agriculture programme of action is to address the agricultural challenges and to achieve the agricultural priorities set in the national Agriculture Development Strategy 2020-2030.
