The Plant Protection mobile app is a digital tool that provide farmers in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan with expert-verified information about protecting their plants from pests, diseases and weeds. The tool provides information about the different plant protection products available in their countries, including biologics, and the correct and safe use of products against pests, diseases and weeds on cultivated crops. The app forms part of the Agro Space app – a web-based app developed jointly by Neksigol Group and AgroInformAsia that hosts various digital products developed for farmers.

  • Mobile app

Plant Protection is available as a web app or Android app in three languages: Tajik, Kyrgyz and Russian. An Internet connection is required to download the web app, after which, users can access the information offline. The app contains information on the available plant protection products filtered by trade name or active ingredients, and identifies crops and the names of pests, diseases and weeds. The web app, in contrast, has a keyword search function.

The Plant Protection mobile app and online app have been designed for agricultural producers and organizations involved in the sale of plant protection products in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. The app has the potential for broader application throughout and beyond Central Asia, being available also in Russian.

  • Advertising

The apps are free to download and use on personal devices through the Google Play Store or the app's website, while the Agro Space web app is open to all users without limitations. Two types of in-app advertising are implemented in the web-based app: Google Ads and an embedded module for the hosting of advertisements. Posting an ad costs USD 5/month or USD 25/year (as of December 2022).

By improving farmers' access to expert-verified instructions, this tool can prevent the excessive and unnecessary use of chemicals, thus reducing the impact of agricultural activities on the environment, while also helping farmers to reduce their plant protection costs. The mobile app has, so far recorded more than 10 000 downloads, and there are more 3000 visitors to the web portal every month.
