Description

Plantix is a mobile application and web-based library designed to help farmers and gardeners identify and manage plant diseases, pests and nutrient deficiencies. The app provides customized solutions based on AI and image recognition technologies. Users can connect with a community for the sharing of knowledge and to receive advice. In India, an integrated marketplace aids users in sourcing appropriate chemicals.

Plantix is available in two versions: Plantix and Plantix Preview. The app supports the identification of plant diseases via an image upload function. The AI analyses the image, identifies the plant and its status, and suggests remedies. Over 500 plant threats to 50 major crops can be identified from comparisons with the database of 60 million images. The app features a fertilizer calculator and issues disease alerts, while also hosting a marketplace (in India).

Available in 18 languages, including 10 Indian dialects. Between February 2022 and 2023, the app was accessed by 10 million users, with 6.3 million being active, and 80 percent being from India.

The app is free for farmers and retailers, earning instead from the API image recognition services provided to other companies. No commission is taken from sales of pesticides.

Impact

Plantix aids in the early detection of plant issues, helping prevent crop damage. The app also provides access to resources for the management of diseases, pests and nutritional deficiencies. In India, it offers organic solutions, that reduce the reliance on chemicals. A survey found that 57 percent of users improved their farming knowledge, 20 percent increased their crop production and 17 percent reported an increase in income.

Partners

In India, the app collaborates with a vast network of retailers. As of February 2023, over 20,000 retailers use the platform to supply chemicals to farmers.
