Supporting New Farmers in Belarus is a project that provides training and financing support for new farmers and agri-food small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The project aims to support entrepreneurship in agriculture and rural development by providing access to knowledge, skills, and financial resources. UNDP (with Joint SDG Fund support) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food conducted an in-depth review of agri-food sector financing and proposed mechanisms to support innovative projects and improve interaction between producers and retail chains. A key output was a beginner-farmer training program designed from a survey of 176 respondents, addressing common gaps in taxation, law, accounting, government support and access to finance.

The project utilizes digital training platforms and financial technology solutions to provide training and facilitate access to financing for new farmers. The initiative is delivered through structured training (36 study hours) plus practical learning visits to successful farms, with modules that include market/logistics pathways and organic regulation. Trainings also covered applied digital/agtech topics such as quadcopter-based application of plant protection products and the use of digital technologies in farm business operations.
