DescriptionOverview of the initiative and its approach.
Agroboca is an online marketplace platform where customers can buy directly from farmers. All products from different farmers are presented with detailed descriptions, pricing, availability, and delivery information, and can be added to a central shopping cart. The platform is operated by an aggregator and offers both free and paid listing options for farmers. Delivery and collection options vary by farmer.
TechnologyTechnology used by the initiative.
Marketplace is accessible through standard internet browsers on desktop and mobile devices. The platform allows agricultural producers to create profiles, list products, define availability and manage orders, while consumers can browse products, filter by location or category and place purchases online. Backend functionality varies for sellers by service tier: basic listings allow producers to receive order alerts without integrated online payments, while advanced and premium tiers enable online payment processing (e.g. card and PayPal), integrated or customizable logistics options, and additional content and marketing features.
TargetUsers, groups, or communities targeted by the initiative.
Marketplace is targeted at food consumers and individual farmers.
Business modelHow the initiative delivers and sustains its value.
Agroboca offers free online shop fronts for farmers without online payment functionality. There are also two paid versions: commission based with 8 percent commission on sales and subscription based, costing 240 Euro a year, and smaller commission on sales at 6 percent.
ImpactThe observed or intended effects of the initiative.
Agroboca aims to contribute to improved market access for small and medium-scale farmers by enabling direct sales to consumers, potentially increasing producer margins through the reduction of intermediaries.
