Agromart
Knowledge, farm advisory, and e-commerce for agricultural producers
Description
Agromart is a multipurpose online app that connects farmers with qualified farm advisors and providers of agricultural services and products. The app publishes the agricultural commodity prices listed at multiple market sites across Uzbekistan, and features also educational materials, video lessons and agricultural news, as well as satellite imagery consulting and analytics. By accessing the “pocket agronomist”, farmers are provided with tailored advice based on satellite monitoring. As of October 2022, the development of a fintech product is underway that will enhance the financial literacy and bankability of farmers.
Technology
Agromart is a web and mobile application for both Android and iOS through which farmers can request instant online advice in 10 agricultural areas from expert consultants. Consultations are facilitated through a chatbox upon registration. Agromart partners with Planet, a satellite company, to provide imagery and analytics on demand, offering insights into soil structure, nutrition, mineralization levels and crop health. The information and educational content is available in English, Russian and Uzbek, and there are also active social media channels on Facebook and Telegram. The trading app requires user registration.
Target
Agromart's primary users are farmers. As of July 2023, there were over 15,000 registered users. The portal contains over 200 000 materials, and over 50 000 consultations have been facilitated through the portal or app. It supports the Russian, Uzbek and English languages.
Business model
Agromart offers free consultancy for farmers, funded by OSCE, GIZ and GGGI. Use of the app is also free.
Impact
Agromart champions sustainable agriculture, producing valuable content on such subjects as soil management, organic farming and drip irrigation. The app provides access to advisory services and knowledge databases, potentially reducing the risks faced by farmers related to harvest losses or planting timings. The provided knowledge and data help farmers manage their operations and respond to crises or price volatility. Agromart also serves as a marketing tool and connection hub for customers and suppliers in 14 Uzbek regions. Hosting over 1700 ads, the app contributes to a more effective and equitable supply chain.
