Description

The Thematic Network of European Beekeepers (B-THENET) is a digital platform for European beekeepers for the collection and dissemination of good beekeeping practices and innovations. It facilitates discussions among beekeepers, advisors and other stakeholders in 15 languages.

Technology

  • Website
  • Online community

B-THENET features an online practice repository and an online forum. The repository currently serves as a source of good practices in two areas: “beekeeping” and “biosecurity measures”; while the online forum allows registered users make posts and engage in open discussions. The B-THENET website features links to social media channels and provides updates on events, newsletters, surveys and more.

Target

  • Farm advisors
  • Rural communities
  • Smallholder farmers

The main users of B-THENET are beekeepers, farm advisors, and other stakeholders.

Business model

  • Fully free
  • Donor support

B-THENET was funded under the European Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (now funded under the Horizon Europe Programme). Access to the online community and the practice repository is free of charge and registered users can interact and share knowledge.

Impact

B-THENET is expected to enhance information sharing and networking capacity among actors involved in honey production and beekeeping. As of November 2024, more than 640 practices have been posted and made accessible online in multiple languages. B-THENET is also a repository of such resources as thematic reports, scientific studies and innovation casebooks.
