“Connected farmers – A casebook of good practices and inspiring stories from Europe and Central Asia” highlights the transformative power of digital technologies in agriculture by presenting 25 compelling case studies of small-, medium- and large-scale farmers and agripreneurs who have successfully embraced digitalization. Case studies from Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, North Macedonia, the Republic of Moldova and Uzbekistan are presented as real-world examples, some of which have been tested and replicated in diverse contexts and can serve as recommended models, while others show great potential for upscaling.
Technology
The case studies offer insights into the methodologies applied, tangible benefits, constraints faced, success factors and lessons learned for each practice. To aid navigation, the case studies are grouped into five distinct use cases based on the applied technologies and purposes: 1) Digital Knowledge and Marketing; 2) Digital Crop Production; 3) Digital Greenhouses; 4) Digital Livestock Management; and 5) Digital Farm Management.

This publication is designed for farmers, farm advisors, agripreneurs, agricultural practitioners and other stakeholders in the agriculture sector who are interested in exploring the potential of digital technologies in the agri-food sector; learning best practices and strategies to overcome challenges; and benefitting from the experiences in the adoption of digital technologies.
Impact
The publication seeks to support the development of a collective understanding of how digitalization can serve as an accelerator for positive change in the agricultural landscape through the attainment of a more sustainable, resilient and inclusive future for rural communities, and to inspire others to replicate and adopt such digital practices and to explore other digital solutions, thus empowering the adoption of digital technologies.
