CROSSMART

Digital ecosystem connecting science, technology and producers to improve viticulture and olive farming

Description

CROSSMART is a cross-border project that supports smart and precision agriculture and agripreneurship in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro. The project combines a digital platform with integrated farm management software, e-learning and training support, and new physical infrastructure, including mobile laboratories and laboratory centres for wine and olive oil quality analysis.

Technology

  • Remote sensing
  • GIS
  • Drone
  • Cloud
  • Big data
  • Artificial intelligence (AI)
  • Artificial intelligence (AI)
  • Desktop/web-based application
  • Mobile app

CROSSMART is implemented through a digital platform and integrated farm management software that are developed and tested in pilot sites. In these pilots, the project deploys agrometeorological stations, soil and plant sensors, smart insect traps and drones with multispectral cameras to collect real-time weather, soil and crop data, which are transmitted via IoT and cloud services to the platform. CROSSMART links these data streams with web and mobile interfaces and with analyses from new wine and olive oil laboratories and mobile labs, so that farmers receive site-specific recommendations and decision-support tools for smart agriculture. The project also supports market access through collaboration and networking and through quality testing that helps producers meet premium product standards.

Target

  • Farm advisors
  • Large size farms
  • Medium size farms
  • Private sector

CROSSMART primarily targets smallholders, medium and large farms, producers of grapes and olives.

Business model

  • Subscription

CROSSMART operates as a publicly funded project under the Interreg VI-A IPA HR–BA–ME 2021–2027 Programme, with a total budget of EUR 1 516 844. The digital platform, farm management software, training programmes and knowledge transfer activities can be accessed free of charge, and it is designed so that the action plans remain available beyond the project duration.

Impact

CROSSMART aims to strengthen agripreneurs’ productivity and innovation by combining digital decision support with advisory services and training courses for producers. The project has already installed three agrometeorological stations in different production environments in Konavle and is establishing at least one laboratory centre for wine and olive oil quality control.
