Divina Wine Hub

Marketing hub for wine products in the Šmarje Smart Village

Description

Divina Wine Hub and Shop is an website for the promotion of quality local wine products from Slovenian Istria. The website was developed by young winemakers as a joint response to the difficulties faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, facilitating online sales with a view to developing into a website for the exchange of knowledge and the strengthening of local human capacities.

Technology

  • Website
  • E-commerce/online marketplace

Divina is a website for wine producers and sellers that features an e-commerce section that is accessible from both mobile phones and computers. The website currently offers information on winemakers in Šmarje (Slovenia), however, there is an intention to develop it further as a source of relevant news, and information on wine tasting, as well as a hub for training and courses.

Target

  • Medium size farms
  • Food consumers

The main users of Divina Wine Hub are young wine producers in Slovenian Istria and the consumers of their products. The idea for Divina was first conceptualized at the time when wine consumption, sales and trade, and the winemaking sector as a whole, were suffering from the severe impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, winemakers in Slovenian Istria looked to e-commerce to respond to the physical restrictions imposed by the pandemic on businesses and consumers.

Business model

  • Fully free
  • Donor support

Divina Wine Hub is an website that is freely accessible by all consumers of wine products, with free shipping offered for purchases over EUR 37. The website serves also as a website for promotional and collaborative activities, with the involvement of more than ten local winemakers who participate in joint projects such as LIVERUR.eu, supported by Horizon-2020 research grants.

Impact

The Divina website has helped more than ten young winemakers from Slovenian Istria to market their wineries and wines more efficiently, and to successfully improve the logistical and organizational aspects of their distribution processes, while increasing the visibility and recognizability of their products.
