FoodFix

Digital health solution for optimal in-patient nutritional care

Description

NutriFix is a decision support system for medical operatives & dieticians operating in institutional settings, and is designed to streamline the entire process of nutritional care for in-patients, from the creation of personalized dynamic nutrition profiles, to the provision of monitoring and alert functions. Healthcare providers can improve patient outcomes, reduce costs and enhance the overall quality of care. The solution facilitates the real-time monitoring of the nutritional status of patients, thus preventing malnutrition, while also tracking unconsumed food, supporting accurate food supply and reducing waste. The available analytics include changes in food consumption, actual consumption gaps in the composition of the essential nutritional values, food portions rejected by the patient and recommendations for nutritional interventions by the nutritionist, nutrition and composition balance analyses of menus, etc.

Technology

  • Desktop/web-based application
  • Artificial intelligence (AI)
  • Artificial intelligence (AI)

NutriFix comprises two components. An operational platform, based on a web application, for the planning, serving and documenting of the served & actual food consumption. The platform is installed on-site, can be integrated with electronic health record systems, and can be accessed via a desktop or tablet (mainly by meal servers). The analytical platform is based on AI and machine learning, and boasts two parallel capabilities in the form of Image Decoding and Data Analysis, based on an extensive and reconciled database, retrieved from the operational platform, and built according to unique and dedicated Food Ontology Specifications. The two layers facilitate early detection and the provision of alerts and decision support functions.

Target

  • Private sector

Hospitals, geriatric centres, medical rehabilitation centres, older adult houses, psychiatric hospitals, shelters, and other medical establishments, are among the target users. As of June 2024, two medical centres have adopted the solution, in which 10 staff members are using the system for the monitoring of 300 active patients.

Business model

  • Subscription
  • Fee for service

This Business-to-Business solution is provided for an implementation fee and for periodic usage fees, depending on the size of the hospital.

Impact

The solution aims to facilitate the efficient and effective monitoring and control of each patient, and to reduce medical complications, mortality, hospitalization days and re-hospitalizations. For hospitals, it supports the minimization of risks, food waste and extra care expenses, and it provides the medical team with active warnings, detailed reports on nutrient intake, insights into the effects of healing actions, and evidence of allergens, enhancing overall patient care and operational efficiency.
