Description
GreenAral was a web-based app and mobile application that provided vital information for those doing business in the agriculture and environmental sectors in the Aral Sea region. It supported day-to-day operations through the provision of learning resources, advisory materials, networking and insightful ideas. The content was tailored for the Republic of Karakalpakstan. The advisory materials were provided in the form of articles, videos and other media, and supplied information about sustainable agricultural technologies and practices created by consultants listed on the website. Additionally, a map-enabled database listed agribusiness-related enterprises along with their contact details. The Agri-market page displayed prices for at least 50 major agricultural products, and was updated weekly based on a review of all major wholesale markets in all 14 districts and in Nukus city.
Technology
GreenAral was available as both a web-based application and a mobile application entitled “Jasilawil”. The content was provided in Karakalpak, the target language, in Russian and Uzbek, and partially in English. The app had five sections: E-learning, Agri-Business, Agri-Finance, Agri-Market, and Advisory Services. The advisory services could be accessed via a chat box after registering with an Uzbek phone number.
Target
The app's target users were primarily food producers, farm advisors and agribusinesses in Karakalpakstan.
Business model
The mobile app and online app were both available for free, and was developed under the Green Rehabilitation Investment Project for the Karakalpakstan Republic and funded by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
Impact
GreenAral, although no longer active, was conceived as a solution to the repercussions of the Aral Sea crisis. The app's mission was to drive socio-economic development in Karakalpakstan as a one-stop app for the hosting of quality information and advice for farmers and processors.
