Cost-sharing of innovative agricultural technologies
Description
The Innovative Technologies Grant Programme supports the development of skills and productivity among farmers in Georgia, with particular focus on small-scale farmers. The programme promotes the adoption of innovative climate-smart and energy-efficient agricultural technologies by funding startup projects that improve farm productivity.
Technology
The grants cover purchases of equipment related to energy efficiency, plant protection, waste management and bio-fertilizer production. Co-financing support from the programme is capped at 50 percent of the purchase value, up to GEL 5000 (approximately USD 1700), but up to 60 percent for women. Beneficiaries must maintain and be able to demonstrate the technology for 2 years in the designated geographical area. Participants can supplement purchases with their own financial resources or through loans/leases.
Target
The Innovative Technologies Grant Programme targets primarily small-scale farmers and rural residents in Georgia with an interest in innovative and climate-smart agricultural technologies. Priority is given to vocational school students, recent graduates and women aged 18–40.
Business model
The programme is funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and is supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) within the framework of the Modernization of the Vocational Education System in Agriculture in Georgia (Phase 3) UNDP project.
Impact
By supporting the adoption of innovative climate-smart, energy-efficient agricultural technologies, the programme enhances agricultural productivity and sustainability in Georgia. The initiative is particularly beneficial to small-scale farmers, who can access advanced technologies they may otherwise be unable to afford.
