METOS

Hardware and software for environmental monitoring and supporting farming decisions

Description

METOS is a weather monitoring and irrigation control system that helps farmers optimize crop yields and save water. The system is based on a combination of sensors, weather stations and control units connected to a Cloud-based app that provides real-time data and alerts on weather conditions, soil moisture and water requirements. The system helps farmers make informed irrigation decisions, ensuring that crops receive just enough water to optimize growth while minimizing waste and reducing water usage. METOS also offers consultation and support services, providing farmers with expert advice on how to make the most of their technologies.

Technology

  • Mobile app
  • Desktop/web-based application
  • Sensor
  • Cloud
  • Internet of things (IoT)
  • Artificial intelligence (AI)

METOS offers a range of hardware products that support the agricultural sector, including weather stations, sensors and data loggers, which are used for the measurement and collection of various environmental data, such as temperature, humidity, wind speed, precipitation, and solar radiation. The data collected by these devices can then be used to make informed decisions about crop management, animal welfare and other aspects of agriculture. METOS also supplies such accessories as mounting systems and extension cables that enhance the functionality of their hardware products. The hardware products allow data transmission, real-time data collection and analysis, and remote access to data through mobile and web-based apps. METOS utilizes a combination of IoT sensors and Cloud technologies for the provision of real-time weather and soil moisture data. The field-based sensors are connected to a Cloud-based app that allows farmers to access the data via their mobile devices or computers. The app uses machine learning algorithms to analyse the data and provide alerts on when irrigation is required and how much water should be used. The system thus provides farmers with a more efficient and sustainable way of managing their crops. In terms of software, METOS offers four solutions. (1) The FieldClimate app is a Cloud-based software solution that provides farmers with real-time information on weather, soil and crop conditions, and allows them to monitor all their fields from a single interface, thereby improving their ability to make informed decisions about when and how to irrigate, fertilize and harvest their crops. (2) FarmView – PREMIUM FIELD MONITORING is an advanced version of FieldClimate app that provides farmers with even more detailed information about their fields. This solution provides real-time data on soil moisture, temperature and nutrient levels, as well as weather forecasts and satellite images of the fields. (3) iMETEO PRO app is an advanced weather forecasting system that provides farmers with up-to-date information about the weather in their location through detailed weather maps and weather forecasts, allowing them to make informed decisions about when to plant, irrigate, fertilize or harvest their crops. (4) FieldClimate MOBILE APP is a mobile application that provides farmers with real-time information about their fields and crops. The app provides users with up-to-date weather forecasts, soil and crop conditions, as well as information about irrigation, fertilization and harvesting. The app is available for both iOS and Android devices.

Target

  • Smallholder farmers
  • Medium size farms
  • Large size farms

METOS can be applied to both crops and livestock in agriculture, providing precise and real-time weather data to help farmers make informed decisions. For those engaged in crop agriculture, METOS offers a range of weather stations and sensors that can be tailored to meet the specific requirements of each crop in terms of soil moisture monitoring, and temperature and light levels, allowing farmers to optimize their irrigation and fertilization activities and improve crop yields. In livestock agriculture, METOS provides reliable and accurate data on weather conditions, including temperature, humidity, wind and precipitation, allowing farmers to better manage their herds and protect their health and well-being. Both applications of METOS help farmers optimize their practices and reduce risks, resulting in improved yields and reduced costs.

Business model

  • Subscription

The price of METOS's services and products depends on the required hardware and software solutions, as well as the size and complexity of the agricultural operation. Each product is listed with a one-time purchase or Subscription starting price. The Virtual Weather Station used on the online apps and app is required to take advantage of the weather monitoring service. A 1-month trial is available for Euro 20, while a 1-year subscription is Euro 179. The more complex packages include also disease models, and start at Euro 275. Subscriptions to the weather report can also be purchased separately without hardware for Euro 23, while the disease model can be accessed for 1 year for Euro 96. The Metos simple weather station hardware for field monitoring can also be rented for a year for a price of Euro 313.

Impact

METOS offers weather monitoring and precision agriculture solutions, with particular focus on production. The advantages offered by METOS include increased efficiency and optimization in farming processes, resulting in improved yields and the more economic use of resources. Farmers can access accurate and up-to-date weather and climate information, as well as data on soil moisture levels and other key metrics that impact crop growth and health, allowing them to make informed decisions about when to plant, when to irrigate and when to harvest their crops. The FieldClimate MOBILE APP can be useful for smallholders, as it provides real-time access to weather and soil data via a smartphone app.
