Moonsyst Smart Rumen Monitoring System
Real-time rumen sensor system for cattle health
Description
Moonsyst is a smart rumen monitoring system that collects real-time data from the rumen of cattle. This information supports early detection of health issues, identification of heat events, and optimization of productivity. By providing continuous, accurate monitoring, the solution addresses key challenges in animal health monitoring and decision-making for cattle farmers.
Technology
The system uses an ingestible rumen bolus to continuously collect temperature and activity data from cattle. Data is transmitted in real time to the cloud-based Mooncloud platform, where AI algorithms analyze it to detect health, fertility, and nutrition-related events. Farmers, veterinarians, and feeding experts can access the platform via phone, tablet, or PC, with clear graphical visualizations and actionable recommendations at both animal and herd level. Push notifications and email alerts provide timely updates on changes such as rumen temperature or drinking habits, enabling proactive herd management.
Target
Moonsyst is primarily used by medium and large cattle farms to improve herd health monitoring, reproduction management, and productivity. The system also offers potential benefits for smallholder farmers seeking to enhance animal welfare and farm efficiency. Clients include livestock farms, universities, and research institutions across more than 25 countries.
Business model
Moonsyst combines a one-time purchase of smart monitoring devices with a recurring software subscription. Revenue comes from hardware sales, platform access, and optional services such as advanced data analytics, herd management consultancy, and system integrations.
Impact
Moonsyst detects heat cycles, monitors cattle health in real time, and provides timely calving alerts, aiming to enable proactive herd management and help farms boost productivity, adopt more sustainable practices, and reduce reliance on antibiotics.
