Tajikistan Preparedness and Resilience to Disasters Project is a disaster risk management and resilient infrastructure project designed to support disaster recovery, strengthen the resilience of critical roads, and enhance disaster risk management capacity in Tajikistan. The project focuses on climate-resilient reconstruction of roads, modernization of disaster communication and information systems, and capacity building for emergency response, directly benefiting rural communities, farmers, and public sector institutions. The project is relevant for food security, rural development, and climate adaptation.
TechnologyTechnology used by the initiative.
The project utilizes a combination of desktop/web-based applications, websites, SMS, radio communication, satellite, fiber optics, mobile apps, and sensors to enable real-time disaster monitoring, early warning dissemination, and data sharing between agencies. Modern ICT equipment is installed in regional crisis management centers, and dissemination channels such as websites, SMS, and mobile apps provide public access to forecasts and warnings of climate and weather hazards. Sensors are used for seismic monitoring of priority infrastructure.

The project directly benefits people in Tajikistan through improved access to disaster information and response systems, and people in flood-affected areas through rehabilitated roads. The project is funded through donor support, specifically a USD 50 million grant from the International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank. All project activities, including infrastructure, ICT systems, and capacity building, are provided free of charge to beneficiaries.

The project aims to benefit 566 000 people in flood-affected areas with rehabilitated roads, 861 000 people with more resilient roads, and 6 284 800 people with improved access to disaster information and response systems. The project targets the rehabilitation of 24 km of roads, reinforcement of 8 bridges, protection of 50 high-risk sites, and establishment of 3 regional crisis management centers. The project contributes to reduced disaster risk, improved rural connectivity, and strengthened climate adaptation capacity.
