SMART AGRO GRAPE
Digital platform for winegrowers in Šmarje Smart Village
DescriptionOverview of the initiative and its approach.
SMART AGRO GRAPE is a digital app for winegrowers that supports the technologically, economically and environmentally efficient management of agricultural land, reducing the burden of agriculture on the environment by correctly assessing vineyard conditions and determining the optimal time and focal points of actions.
TechnologyTechnology used by the initiative.
The SMART AGRO GRAPE digital app makes use of new measurement tools for the collection of a large amount of data garnered from low-energy wireless sensors. The sensors are installed in the heart of the “smart vineyards”, directly in the soil, on agricultural machinery or as part of a central sensor station, and transmit the data to a central server for storage and processing. The processed information can then be used by winegrowers to assess the conditions in their vineyards and to support their management decisions (regarding water use, fertilizers, etc.).
TargetUsers, groups, or communities targeted by the initiative.
The primary users of this solution are smallholder winegrowers and cooperatives involved in the “Digital app for winegrowers in the introduction of joint environmental approaches with the aim of reducing the burden of agriculture on the environment" project of the European Innovation Partnership (EIP).
Business modelHow the initiative delivers and sustains its value.
SMART AGRO GRAPE is currently funded by the European Union, and is serving seven smallholder winegrowers and cooperatives in Slovenia.
ImpactThe observed or intended effects of the initiative.
The app supports the optimization of production processes by reducing costs, improving yields and minimizing negative impacts on the environment, particularly suboptimal water consumption and the overuse of fertilizers.
