Description
Trapview is an automated pest monitoring solution that allows growers to remotely monitor pest insects caught in pheromone traps. The use of automated electronic traps ensures the efficient monitoring of pests, while the advanced artificial intelligence-based processing of trap data provides customers with an accurate and real-time understanding of pest population dynamics, as well as forecasts of the pest development stages in a specific area. Growers are alerted in real-time when the number of pests identified calls for insecticide spraying. Thus, Trapview serves also as a decision support tool for the planning of field activities and the optimal usage of crop protection resources. Trapview is capable of monitoring over 60 species of pest insects.
Technology
Independent trapping devices gather data about pest levels in the installed territory that is fed continuously to the users’ Trapview cloud where it is analysed and structured using AI technologies. Machine learning facilitates the accurate prediction of the future development stages of key pests. The database accessed by the AI technology contains details of over 22 million insects with images. The gathered information, recommendations and reports are presented to users via mobile or computer applications.

Business model
The price for users is not openly available. Trapview has been funded under the “Public tender for Supporting Research & Development Projects 2”, co-financed by the Republic of Slovenia and the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

Trapview can support plant protection decision-making processes by providing real-time information, allowing the forecasting of future pest levels and simulating different plant protection measure scenarios. Trapview solutions can further help in the management labour costs and other resources required for pest management. Trapview also makes pest protection activities more precise and targeted, making the use of pharmaceuticals less haphazard, and thus more sustainable. Furthermore, society can benefit through access to healthier food and the reduced chance of pest insects being resistant to insecticides. According to the company's website, organizations that use Trapview solutions report an average 5 percent increase in yield and quality. The 1000+ installed devices have helped produce over 12 million tons of food, have reduced CO2 emissions by 9 337 tons, have supported 59 847 hours of labour savings and have saved growers over EUR 130 million in costs (as of September 2022).
