Agrioli

AI-based plant disease and pest management system

Description

Agrioli is a plant disease and pest management tool that analyses photos of crops affected by pests, diseases (fungal, viral, bacterial) or nutrient deficiencies, after which it provides a diagnosis and offers tailored advice to the user. Agrioli hosts a freely accessible library of pests, diseases, bacteria and fungi that can be filtered by type and target crops. As of May 2024, the tool can support the management of plant pests and diseases affecting 77 different agricultural crops.

Technology

  • Artificial intelligence (AI)
  • Cloud
  • Desktop/web-based application

Agrioli is a desktop-based application that allows registered users to upload images of their affected crops, after which an AI-based image recognition model analyses the uploaded images, diagnoses the issue and makes actionable recommendations. Each diagnosis comes with a detailed description of the issue, a list of crops it affects, the symptoms, step-by-step treatment recommendations, causes and preventive measures.

Target

  • Agriculture cooperatives
  • Farm advisors
  • Large size farms
  • Medium size farms
  • Smallholder farmers

The target users of Agrioli are primarily farmers and farm advisors who can benefit from the system’s ability to diagnose plant diseases and pest issues in their crops and the subsequent actionable recommendations.

Business model

  • Freemium

Agrioli’s AI image recognition services can be accessed for a fee, for which users select their crop type from the Agrioli platform and pay a fee for each day of use through an integrated payment gateway.

Impact

Agrioli leverages AI-based image recognition technologies, allowing farmers and farm advisors to rapidly diagnose pests and diseases in their plants, including fungal, viral and bacterial infections and nutrient deficiencies through a simple image upload. This diagnostic capability helps reduce the time and effort typically required for the manual identification of crop problems, allowing for quicker interventions and supporting improved crop health management.
