Description
AgroVodic (previously “Pesticidi”) is a plant protection mobile application and web app that provides farmers with a database of crop diseases and weeds, as well as the pesticides on the market, supported by detailed descriptions, pictures and information. The database contains over 200 of the most common plant diseases, pests and deficiency symptoms that the app matches with appropriate treatments. The app also features spraying and sowing calculators, as well as a direct channel of communication with agronomists.
Technology
The app is available at the Google App and Google Play Stores, while a web version can be accessed from any browser. The information is systematized, allowing searches by plant, disease or pesticide. When the app is updated, the mobile app is updated automatically. As of December 2022, AgroVodic is undergoing further improvements with the support of the Serbia Innovation Fund. Among the new features will be a channel through which users can obtain free advice on how to treat common problems in the field, as well as a marketplace through which smallholders can purchase premium inputs (fertilizers, pesticides, etc.) at discounted prices.
Target
Every year, some 220,000 users access the app and app, of whom 40 percent are farmers in Serbia, and 80–90 percent are smallholders. The organization plans to expand into the neighbouring markets soon.
Business model
AgroVodic operates with funding from the sale of advertising space, and is fully free for farmers.
Impact
AgroVodic can play an important role in increasing the agricultural production capacity of farmers. The operators seek to help small farmers survive the market competition, and to contribute to the production of healthier food by reducing pesticide and fertilizer use by raising the knowledge level of farmers with detailed and easy-to-digest information about products, pests, weeds, calculations, etc.
