European Union’s digital platform for the collection and analysis of animal health data
Description
The EU Animal Diseases Information System (ADIS) is a tool for the registration and documentation of the infectious animal diseases identified by the Animal Health Law (AHL), allowing the evolution of outbreaks to be monitored. ADIS provides uniform conditions for the implementation of Union notification and reporting as provided by Regulation (EU) 2020/2002. It is a disease management tool that sends out alert notifications and detailed information about any significant animal disease outbreaks in the countries that are connected to the application.
Technology
ADIS is a secure web-based application that has been developed to streamline the collection and analysis of animal health data. This novel platform features an alert email system that makes use of geo-localized information and works in tandem with the World Animal Health Information System (WAHIS) operated by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH). The interoperability of ADIS and WAHIS is critical for the collaboration of the two systems, which exchange data through Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), ensuring the seamless flow of information between them. This data exchange is designed to support the efficient dissemination of news of exceptional events in WAHIS while maintaining a single reporting process for the EU Member States. The current scope of the interconnection supports only Early Warning notifications (immediate notifications and follow-up reports).

The main users of ADIS are private sector traders and competent public authorities in both EU and non-EU nations (e.g. EFSA, WOAH, EU reference laboratories or EURLs).
Business model
ADIS is co-funded by the European Union and its Member States. Prive sector traders and competent public authorities of both EU and non-EU nations can access the platform free of charge upon official registration.

ADIS can support policymakers in making well-informed choices based on the most current and accurate information. ADIS is designed to reduce administrative burden and to ensure the consistency of data through efficient, one-time reporting by the EU Member States and the associated countries. The interconnection of ADIS and WAHIS brings several advantages, such as enhanced data quality and consistency on a global scale; streamlined notifications by Member States; and improved decision-making.
