Description
The ASIG Geoportal is a web-based application managed by the Albanian State Authority for Geospatial Information (ASIG) serving as a central hub for the dispersal and sharing of geospatial data and services related to many fields, including agriculture and aquaculture. It is integrated with interactive tools that support the exploration of maps, datasets and thematic layers related to land use, infrastructure, the environment and other spatial information categories. Currently, it hosts 26 maps of geo-localized data concerning hydrography, geology, land cover, land use, species distribution, agricultural and aquacultural facilities, and much more.
Technology
The ASIG Geoportal stores data garnered from various government institutions and agencies in Albania, as well as from national geospatial databases, cadastral records, environmental monitoring systems and infrastructure networks. The web-based portal is integrated with interactive tools with measurement, drawing, zooming, sharing, overlayer and search functionalities. The portal and its data infrastructure align with the European INSPIRE Directive, ensuring standardized and interoperable geospatial data.
Target
The geoportal has been designed for use by public administrations, private entities and the general public, and its content can be accessed, visualized, downloaded and integrated into other projects free of charge, bringing transparency and efficient decision-making to planning and governance.
Business model
The ASIG Geoportal business model is primarily public service-oriented, offering free access to geospatial data and services to support decision-making, transparency and compliance with national and EU standards such as the INSPIRE Directive. Funding is provided from government budgets and potentially from international collaborations or projects, ensuring sustainability and alignment with the public policy objective
