Description
BeeOmonitoring is a digital solution developed by BeeOdiversity that uses bees as bioindicators to monitor plant biodiversity and detect agricultural and industrial pollutants. By analysing pollen collected by bees, the solution provides scientific indicators that support environmental monitoring, land management and biodiversity-related decision-making in agrifood and natural resource contexts.
Technology
The solution relies on field deployment of beehives that collect pollen samples across large areas. Pollen and associated materials are analysed to derive biodiversity and pollution indicators. Results are interpreted using data interpretation software, including AI-based analysis, and communicated to users through online channels.
Target
BeeOmonitoring supports public authorities and private agrifood and land managers that require biodiversity and pollution indicators for site assessment and management. BeeOmonitoring is described as applied on hundreds of sites with more than 10 years of monitoring experience, and a project deployment in Poland involved 50 000 bees collecting more than 4 000 000 000 pollen samples over one year.
