CarbonSpace

Monitoring, reporting and verification platform for carbon sequestration and emissions on farm

Description

CarbonSpace is a digital monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) platform that measures land-based carbon fluxes with satellite data and artificial intelligence. It reduces dependence on fragmented ground sampling by delivering scalable and ISO-validated assessments. The solution supports agriculture, forestry and nature-based projects by enabling transparent carbon accounting for supply chains and sustainability reporting.

Technology

  • Artificial intelligence (AI)
  • Big data
  • Cloud
  • Desktop/web-based application
  • GIS
  • Remote sensing

The system integrates multisource satellite imagery (e.g. Sentinel-2, Landsat), meteorological inputs and AI algorithms with eddy covariance reference networks to estimate net ecosystem exchange (NEE). Results are provided through a cloud dashboard and API, following ISO 14064-3 validation standards.

Target

  • Public sector
  • Private sector

CarbonSpace is used by agri-food companies, forestry enterprises, project developers, carbon marketplaces and public agencies. Applications include supply chain monitoring, sourcing of low-carbon materials and management of reforestation and agroforestry projects. As per August 2025, pilots involved more than 1,000 farms, 20+ reforestation projects, 70 customers and over 3 million hectares in Europe, Latin America, Africa and the United States.

Business model

  • Fee for service
  • Subscription

CarbonSpace is offered as a subscription or contract-based SaaS solution tailored to client land area and monitoring needs.

Impact

CarbonSpace aims to enable transparent and scalable carbon accounting for land assets, reducing reliance on empirical averages and manual sampling. The system can help quantify additional carbon sequestration, accelerate NBS investment, and improve ESG reporting.
