Description
DALATEK operates as a web-based app and mobile application that connects and streamlines the interactions of farmers with agri-food exporters and other actors on the agrifood value chain, such as logistic operators, quality assurance specialists, restaurateurs and refrigeration facilities. The web-based app and mobile application can be used to access training materials, supporting the management of the food supply chain. Overall, DELATEK is an easy-to-use mobile app that allows the user to find a job, sell a product, make a purchase and expand their knowledge. The app facilitates interactions at every stage of the process of preparing products for export, from harvesting to sending out invoices or certificates to the final consumer. DELATEK’s team is now working on building a database of trusted farmers with whom registered users can collaborate in the long term, and is looking into the provision of technology training to increase the number of qualified quality control specialists in the field to support the successful completion of transactions.
Technology
DALATEK is available as a mobile application or web-based application. The mobile application can be downloaded from the Apple App or Google Play Stores. To register on the app, the user should provide the requested details to the dalatek.net webpage, including the desired role, login and telephone number. After confirming their identity, the user can complete the registration process by setting an 8-digit password and agreeing with the conditions and terms of use. The 9 main pages of the site can be accessed from the app’s dashboard (www.behance.net/gallery/133629221/MarketplaceDashboard-for-Dalatek). Alternatively, the user can register through a Telegram bot, namely @dalatekBot and complete a similar sign-up procedure. Users can find or post the products they want to buy or sell. After farmers upload what they have in stock, exporters can see the goods and contact the farmer.
Target
The app is envisioned for three types of users: farmers, local and foreign buyers and entrepreneurs. The app is available in the Uzbek, Russian and English languages. In an interview with EurasiaNet, the founder of the app claimed that 1,200 users had signed up with DALATEK within 3 months of launch (www.eurasianet.org/uzbekistan-female-tech-entrepreneur-cuts-out-the-middleman).
Business model
Farmers can register and use DALATEK free of charge, while other actors must pay for access. The app earns commission from all business transactions and sells its data and subscriptions to generate revenues.
Impact
DALATEK seeks to harmonise business transactions, support the matching of users’ needs and reduce information asymmetries along the food supply chain. The application makes use of digital information-sharing technologies and procedures to enhance transparency and trust, and aims to reduce the bureaucracy and costs associated with the verification of food quality, while allowing store payments to be completed electronically.
