Description

The Center for Digital Innovation is a university-based center established at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of East Sarajevo to support digital transformation, innovation and applied research in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The center provides a space where students, researchers, public authorities, and private companies can jointly explore and test digital technologies.

The Center for Digital Innovation is equipped with laboratories, hardware and software platforms that enable experimentation with artificial intelligence, internet of things, robotics and cloud-based data processing relevant to agriculture. The project supports development and testing and uses modern computing infrastructure and collaborative tools to host student projects, research pilots and joint initiatives with external partners on topics such as smart farming, precision agriculture, digital advisory services and rural innovation ecosystems.

The Innovation Center targets university students and researchers, smallholder farmers, public sector institutions and local authorities, and private sector companies.

The Center operates as a non-profit academic center funded mainly through university budgets and public or donor-supported projects that promote digitalization and innovation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The establishment of the Center was supported through the Erasmus+ Innovation Centers project with EUR 17 000. The hub provides training, events and advisory activities free of charge or at subsidized cost for students, researchers and public partners, while certain collaborative projects with private sector actors may be supported through project contracts and grants.

Impact

The initiative aims to strengthen local capacity, one of the goals is the development of innovative digital solutions to support agricultural producers through the active engagement of students and cooperation with local communities, businesses and related organizations in the country and abroad. The center aims to support longer-term improvements in productivity, resource efficiency, and service delivery in rural areas.
