DropControl

Cloud-based platform for irrigation automation and monitoring

DescriptionOverview of the initiative and its approach.

DropControl is a digital irrigation management solution designed for medium and large-scale farmers and farm advisors. It integrates IoT devices, field sensors, a mobile application and a cloud platform to monitor and control irrigation and fertigation in real time. The solution addresses challenges of inefficient water use, high labour demand and sustainability pressures by enabling automated scheduling and precise resource application.

TechnologyTechnology used by the initiative.

  • Cloud
  • Desktop/web-based application
  • Internet of things (IoT)
  • Mobile app
  • Sensor

DropControl integrates distributed solar-powered field nodes connected via Digi XBee mesh networks. These nodes collect data on soil moisture, flow, pressure, and weather while controlling pumps, valves, and fertigation equipment. Data is transmitted to a cloud platform accessible through web and mobile dashboards. The platform provides scheduling tools, analytics, and real-time alerts, and supports interoperability via APIs.
