Hail Protection System Locator SWG 1.01
Shock wave-based hail protection system
DescriptionOverview of the initiative and its approach.
The Hail Protection System Locator SWG 1.01 is a stationary shock wave generator designed to protect agricultural land from hail damage. It covers approximately 120 hectares per unit and is remotely managed via a centralized cloud-based interface. The system integrates IoT sensors and GIS mapping, allowing real-time monitoring and control of multiple stations simultaneously.
TechnologyTechnology used by the initiative.
The system comprises a shock wave generator with six combustion chambers, powered by a 12V DC battery charged via solar panels. It supports GSM/GPRS and SMS communication for remote operation. The centralized control platform provides a web interface accessible via tablets, displaying station locations on a map and offering real-time data on parameters like battery voltage and gas pressure. Users can remotely adjust fuel injection and firing intervals.
TargetUsers, groups, or communities targeted by the initiative.
The primary users are farmers and agricultural cooperatives in Armenia, including smallholder farmers. The system is deployed in regions such as Shirak, Ararat, and Kotayk, aiming to mitigate hail-related crop losses and enhance climate resilience in agriculture.
Business modelHow the initiative delivers and sustains its value.
The solution is available for purchase with options for crediting. It includes a two-year warranty and free software updates. Users may also pay for installation and ongoing support services.
ImpactThe observed or intended effects of the initiative.
The system enhances agricultural resilience by reducing crop losses due to hail, thereby improving food security and supporting sustainable farming practices. Its deployment contributes to better production and environmental outcomes in hail-prone regions.
