Description
Accueil Paysan is a well-established network of rural farmers and organizations that support the promotion and improvement of agroecological farming in rural France. The network makes use of an online app that connects communities with farmers offering farm-based products, farm accommodation, activities for children and people with disabilities, and artistic activities.
Technology
The online portal presents a search tool to allow users to retrieve the category of experiences available in different departments of France. The additional filter options include the languages spoken by the farmer, the acceptance of vouchers, and other features related to the quality of the offered experience. After selecting a farm, the online platform provides the user with a price list and a calendar showing available dates, synchronized with the farm’s calendar. Bookings must be made directly with the farmer, as the online platform only provides a form to streamline the communication.
Target
The users of the platform are the members of the farming community who are part of the Accueil Paysan network, and members of the public who use the website to search for experiences in the rural French communities. Artists, animators and educators can access the online platform to identify farms with an interest in collaborative activities.
Business model
Use of the platform is free of charge for both the farmers and potential visitors, although to list the available opportunities, the farm must be a member of the network, requiring a symbolic membership fee.
Impact
The online platform aims to reduce information asymmetries in the promotion of countryside experiences and rural diversification. Farmers can register their activities on an online platform that shares their ethical principles and missions as regards agroecology, rural community rights, fair living conditions, the solidarity economy, and the deepening of the human and ecological relationship.
