Description
AfiMilk's smart sensor monitors and records the essential aspects of milk yield, identifying cows that have lower or increased milk production conductivity. The sensors provide data on short-term detection of health problems, long-term genetic potential, protein and fat milk components to detect ketosis, nutritional issues and digestion-related problems, and scans of lactose content to accurately identify mastitis. Other key features of the sensor include detecting Sub-Acute Ruminal Acidosis (SARA) which allows farmers to treat the related grow by adapting the feed regime, identifying feed problems that assist in decision-making for the next milking session.
Technology
Afimilk’s sensors are attached to the foot of individual cows. The sensors have key applications that change the way treatments are given to cows and improve their milk outcomes. The technology operates alongside other technologies developed by AfiFarm. These include 1) Afimilk MPC (Milk Point Controller) which is an advanced milk meter collecting detailed, real-time data on flow rates and milking curves, 2) In-Line Milk Lab which provides a daily record of milk yield and milk components per cow, and 3) AfiSort system which automates animal sorting that requires treatment.
Target
The initiative is best suited for medium to large farm owners.
Business model
Afimilk can be availed through a one-time purchase.
Impact
Afimilk intends to use the technologies they developed to dramatically change the way treatments are manage and improve the outcome of milk production of dairy farms.
Four Betters
