Agrigenius®
Phenology-based crops decision support system
Description
Agrigenius is a decision support system who supports farmers in crop management such as olives, tomatoes, table grapes and more, according to the principles of sustainable and precision agriculture. Through on-site sensors and various sources of information, it continuously collects complex data on all aspects related to agronomic management in the field, providing real-time alerts and clear operational advice on the interventions to be implemented. It addresses challenges like inaccurate spray timing, fungicide overuse, and climate-driven disease risks.
Technology
Agrigenius combines cloud-based DSS models with 7-day weather forecasts, epidemiology, and phenology data to calculate hourly disease risk levels against pathogens and parasites, alerts on abiotic stresses and water supplies, helping farmers with field condition monitoring and treatment planning management. Dashboards display intuitive graphs of risk and protection status, while users can record treatments and monitor disease dynamics.
Target
The main users of Agrigenius are smallholder, medium and large-size farmers in Italy. Farm advisors and agricultural cooperatives also benefit from its monitoring and forecasting functions, which enhance advisory services and decision-making.
Business model
Agrigenius is licensed commercially in three tiers: GO (for small and medium farmers), PRO (professional monitoring and forecasting), and TECH (multi-farm supervision). BASF Italia offers access on a subscription basis, with freemium options for limited use.
Impact
Agrigenius aims to support crops disease control by delivering real-time risk alerts and personalized intervention timing advice, helping reduce unnecessary treatments and align inputs with actual plant protection needs.
