Agrosense

Digital cultivation monitoring system

Description

Agrosense is a cultivation monitoring system that combines a digital platform with field data collection technologies and remote sensing to support crop management. The system provides farmers with real-time insights on soil conditions, plant health, irrigation needs, and pest presence to support nutrient, water and pest management for all type of crops.

Technology

  • Big data
  • Cloud
  • Desktop/web-based application
  • E-commerce/online marketplace
  • GIS
  • GPS
  • Instant messaging
  • Internet of things (IoT)
  • Remote sensing
  • Mobile app
  • SMS
  • Sensor

Agrosense operates as a cloud-based platform that integrates data from IoT sensors, satellite and remote sensing sources, and GPS devices. The meteorological module gathers local weather and microclimate data; the sensors module collects soil moisture, temperature and crop-level information through soil probes and crop monitoring sensors; the remote traps module uses camera-equipped devices to detect pests; and the irrigation control module supports water management. The web and mobile applications provide maps, dashboards, and decision-support tools. The solution runs on both iOS and Android, and available in six languages: English, German, Hungarian, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Turkish.

Target

  • Academia and research institutions
  • Agriculture cooperatives
  • Farm advisors
  • Large size farms
  • Medium size farms
  • Private sector

The main users of Agrosense are medium and large farms, agricultural cooperatives, and farm advisors to support daily decisions. Research institutions can also benefit from its data and analytics for field trials and studies.

Business model

  • One time purchase
  • Subscription

AgroSense is a subscription-based platform, most likely with annual fees, although exact prices are not published. From the website, users can additionally purchase and integrate hardware devices such as IoT soil sensors, weather stations, insect traps, monitoring cameras and scales for soil free cultivation.

Impact

The platform is widely used in Hungary and has a growing presence in Europe, it has been deployed to more than 70 sites across 6 countries. The solution aims to help farmers save time, optimize energy, and costs by providing hourly data that can improve production decisions and can be a more affordable alternative to expensive climate computers. According to the provider, spraying can be reduced by 2–3applications, saving around USD 200 per hectar in orchards.
