AKIS Agro

Knowledge hub of the Uzbekistan's Agricultural Knowledge and Information System

Description

AKIS is a web platform supporting Uzbekistan's Agricultural Knowledge and Information System to showcase services focusing on agricultural knowledge and innovation systems in Uzbekistan and promote innovative changes by fostering collaboration among public, private, and organizational stakeholders by highlighting scientific knowledge, training and available services, such as laboratory services, access to irrigation subsidies, equipment testing, land allotment, digital mapping, drone services, and regulatory compliance support, underscoring its commitment to holistic agricultural development in Uzbekistan. The content and resources of the AKIS platform are organized into categories so that the promoted services can be searched by popularity or by organization/supplier. Through the platform, users can access generic information about any specific service such as the name of the organization promoting it, the type of users accessing the service, the duration of the service, its legal basis, any available contact and its price. The application works also as a repository of documents including laws, decrees of the President, Government decisions and orders, and regulatory documents from the Ministry of Justice. An embedded calendar also allows the sharing of events related to agricultural matters in the country. An interactive map also shows the number of services and other basic statistics per region that are included in the platform.

Technology

  • Desktop/web-based application

AKIS is a web-based platform/database that showcases the available services by providing information about the supplier of the service, the location, its price, contact information and by providing a link to apply for the use of the service. Technical solutions promoted by the platform include the use of remote sensing, GPS and GIS to produce electronic digital maps of agricultural lands, as well as the use of drone services to support the development of agriculture in Uzbekistan and the needs of farmers and agribusiness. While these services are mentioned in the platform, specific links are not always available to gather more information on the related technology. There is also a registration feature available, but it does not seem to be currently fully functional.

Target

  • Smallholder farmers
  • Medium size farms
  • Large size farms
  • Farm advisors

Smallholder farmers, in particular, benefit from the initiative's emphasis on digital technologies, as these solutions can empower them with tools for better decision-making, resource management, and improved productivity. The platform is publicly accessible, but it is also possible to register to it, although no specific information is available about the additional features for registered users.
