Description
AMAPj is software that supports small-scale/organic producers in the creation of websites and online systems for sales of their products directly to businesses or consumers. Both browser and mobile application are available, accessible only by the members of the Association pour le Maintien d'une Agriculture Paysanne (Association for the Maintenance of Peasant Agriculture – AMAP). Producers can manage numerous supply chain management activities through the website and app, such as value propositions, membership payments, deliveries to producers, accounting, etc.
Technology
AMAPj is a free, open-source management software for AMAP members, the code of which can be downloaded here https://amapj.fr/download.html. The online software is accessible by all AMAP members. The online software operates on both Windows and Linux operating systems.
Target
The users of the system are members of the Association for the Maintenance of Peasant Agriculture (AMAP), in which there are four membership levels: 1) members with one or more contracts and who make weekly distributions; 2) referents who maintain relationships with one or more producer and that are responsible for collecting contracts and checks from members; 3) producers who undertake to deliver the quantities subscribed at the start of the year by the members each week; and 4) the treasurer, who manages memberships, arranges the establishment of new producers and the creation of referents. Each user has one or more roles (STANDARD, REFERENT, TREASURER, PRODUCER).
Business model
AmapJ can be accessed free of charge by AMAP members, and requires only a connection to a server and computer literacy. Farmers can access experts from a list of selected service providers. Technical assistance is charged at EUR 36 per year.
Impact
As of July 2024, AmapJ is in use by 440 AMAP members (consumer groups) from France, Belgium and Luxembourg, and is being tested by approx. 30 other AMAPs. AmapJ facilitates transactions between consumers and farmers, and so has been designed to be as simple to use as possible. The software facilitates management operations, but without removing the need for communication between the parties involved. One of the strongest features of AmapJ is its distribution of tasks across the AMAP members, and so avoids over-reliance on a single person.
