Arvieu
A public-private partnership addressing desertification in the Occitane region
Description
Arvieu is a small village in France’s Occitanie region with a rich heritage that is under threat from desertification and a lack of opportunities. Under the Smart Rural 27 initiative, the Laëtis digital cooperative in the 2000s started to reverse the desertification of rural areas through the creation of the digital third-place “Le Jardin d’Arvieu”, with the participation of the general public and a public-private partnership involving local institutions and Laëtis.
Technology
Le Jardin d’Arvieu is a 1000 m2 third place with a broadband internet connection, a digital room, coworking and training spaces, conference rooms, and all the necessary facilities to attract new inhabitants or companies in the area. Room reservations and bookings to participate in organized activities can be done also through the Arvieu website.
Target
The main stakeholders are Arvieu municipality, the Community of Municipalities of Lévézou Pareloup, the department of Aveyron, the Laëtis cooperative and the village council. The proffered services mainly target the citizens of Arvieu and new entrepreneurs.
